Obituary

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend. Our Father in Heaven, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and the Angels in Heaven.

Having been blessed to live 78 glorious years, Joyce first entered this world on April 21, 1942 in Calvert, Texas to late Reverend Johnnie Hazzard and Gussie Mae Stroud. Joyce was the first-born child of the three in this blessed union.

Joyce Hazzard Easley transitioned peacefully from this life into the open arms of the Almighty God on Sunday, December 27, 2020.

Joyce accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized into the church. She was very active in youth programs and in the Sunday School department as a youth. As an adult, she joined the True Light Baptist Church under the leadership of her father, the late Reverend Johnnie Hazzard. She would later renew her membership under the current pastor, Roland E. Walton.

"Mama" as we called her gave birth to four children: Rhonda Hunter (Reginald), Kerwin Branch (Joyce), A. Keith Brooks (Dawn), Derrek Brooks. Mama had many special children she cared for, Frederick Lynn Branch, Sherry Matthews.

"Big Momma" as she was called by her amazing grandchildren: Derwayne Branch, Crystal Smith, Constance Faye Wade, Herbert Smith, Jr., Anthony Williams, Jr., Adrian K. Brooks II, Dionte Andrews, Taylor Brooks, Mitchell Brooks, Domingo Brooks, Dinique Brooks, Tenesia Mathews, Teleighsia Madkins, and Burdetta Green.

"Big Momma" was blessed to have 24 great-grand angels, she also had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Johnnie Hazzard and Gussie Mae Stroud as well as her husband of many years, Mr. Joe Louis Easley, six siblings. Joyce loved her family and spent her time serving the Lord and taking care of her family. She was educated in the FWISD and graduated from the historic I.M. Terrell High School with the Class of 1961.
